I recently bought a DeLonghi Icona coffee machine. The machine comes with a built in tamper and also a ordinary plastic tamper. To be honest the built in tamper is next to useless and the plastic one well it will do until I buy a better one and that brings me to my question.
I contacted DeLonghi and asked them what size of a tamper they recommended for the Icona and received the following reply: “The tamper on the Icona measures 49mm.” While the Icona’s supplied tampers each measure 49mm use of the machine would suggest that is way to small.
So question any of you guys out there own a DeLonghi Icona coffee machine and if so what size of a tamper do you use. From what I see it has to be 52 or 53mm
Thanks in advance
Kevin
Why don’t you measure it yourself?
Just use the group basket provided with the machine and measure the inside wall of it across the widest point. Make sure not to measure the rim of the basket, as that’ll add on an extra 2-3mm. If in doubt, go for the slightly smaller size. It’s only 1mm of difference, and if you were able to detect that in your espresso then I’m thoroughly impressed.
However, if you’re buying a good quality tamper (I’m talking Greg Pullman or Reg Barber, which retail at around $150) then you might want to be a bit more precise measuring it! Although, I think one of those brands let’s you send in the basket, and from which they’ll design a tamper perfectly suited to it. Pretty neat.
And I know what you mean about the self tamper. My Saeco has one and it frustrates me so much. Feels like I’m not in control of my espresso quality as much =(

I’d start looking at amazon.com. If they don’t have a replacement carafe, you may have to order it from the manufacturer. Do you have the intruction brochure that came with your machine? Look there.

I have a new Delonghi coffee machine and I also have some vietnamese coffee which has a delicious hazelnut taste. I used to mix it with Italian coffee grounds and use it in my old espresso machine.
I guess I am concerned because the Vietnamese coffee I have is butter roasted. Don’t want to gum anything up.
Thanks for answering.
Hi! Jennimhk,
Yes, you can use Vietnamese butter roasted coffee in espresso coffee machine.
Roasting coffee beans will determine the taste. Espresso coffee bean is darker then normal roasted coffee bean.

Brewer Maintenance
Cleaning the brewer
Regular cleaning will prolong the life of the brewer and is recommended for proper operation. We recommend you clean the external components with a soapy, damp, non-abrasive cloth. Never immerse the brewer in water or other liquids. The K-Cup holder and funnel, drip plate and drip tray (on the Elite, Classic, Ultra, Special Edition, Ultimate, Platinum, Select and B155) are dishwasher safe. The removable water reservoir and water reservoir removable lid are NOT dishwasher safe so you’ll need to clean them by hand.
Additionally, when brewing hot cocoa, Café Escapes or Perfect Iced Tea K-Cups, you should always remove these K-Cups after brewing and perform a cleansing brew to ensure that the K-Cup Holder is clear of any residue.
Please ensure that no cleaners or cleaning solutions are in or near the removable water reservoir as this may contaminate your water supply.
Cleaning the K-Cup Holder 1.Remove the K-Cup assembly
To remove the assembly from the brewer, open the cover by lifting the handle. Grasp the top of the K-Cup Holder with one hand while pushing up on the bottom of the assembly from underneath with the other until it releases. The K-Cup Holder is dishwasher safe.
2.Clean the Funnel
The Funnel can be removed from the K-Cup Holder by pulling on it until it snaps off. The Funnel is dishwasher safe. To replace it just snap it back onto the K-Cup Holder.
3.Clean the exit needle
The exit needle is located on the inside bottom of the K-Cup Holder. If coffee grounds or cocoa mix gets clogged in the exit needle, it can be cleaned using a paper clip or similar tool. Remove the Funnel from the K-Cup Holder, insert the paper clip into the tube and move it around to loosen the clog and remove any debris. Please note, you cannot poke all the way through the needle as the opening of the needle is located on the side and not the top.
4.Install the K-Cup assembly into the brewer
After cleaning, align the K-Cup Holder tabs with the opening placing the two front tabs on the bottom and the single tab on top and snap it into place by pushing down on the top rim.
De-scaling the brewer
The brewer should be de-scaled at least every 3-6 months. Scale is harmless, but if left unattended, it can hinder optimal brewer performance. De-scaling your brewer regularly helps maintain the heating element, removable water reservoir and other parts of the brewer that come in contact with water. Better water quality and water heating means a better cup of coffee, tea, hot cocoa or iced beverage. We recommend de-scaling your brewer at least every 6 months (every 3 months if your water has a high mineral content). The de-scaling process involves using 48 ounces of undiluted white vinegar. To learn how to de-scale your brewer:

Joseph asks…
Anyone have either one? Does anyone think one is better than the other?
My husband and I have totally different tastes in coffee (I’m so tired of drinking flavored coffees, bleech) so I thought we would do well with this so that we can make different coffees at a time.
I have heard good things about keurig, but i don’t know. You might want to find a review of them on amazon or something.

Jenny asks…
What are the pros and cons? I want to get one because of the easy clean up rather than cleaning a whole coffee maker for just one cup of coffee, but I get scared that one day the company is going to stop making the coffees. What do you think?
I was thinking about doing the same thing as you, but my problem is that I need to make more than one cup of coffee at a time. See, my latest dissapointment with a recent Mr. Coffee I bought at the link below.
I decided to go with a percolator. It’s the closest thing to Starbucks, piping hot tasting coffee.

Helen asks…
Probably about 10 cups a day are drank in the office.
While the Keurig only powers up for each cup, it does keep water heated within it for preparation. It also uses disposable K-cups for each use.
The Mr. Coffee brews the 10 cups all at once, but would be left on for 8 hours straight. Disposed of would be one paper filter. (Or, perhaps for freshness, two brews would take place.)
In any case, which is better for the environment?
I like my Mr. Coffee. I’ve heard a lot of complaints about the Keurig, that they don’t last long enough for the money they cost. If you are unfortunate enough to have it go out after the warranty is up, the only thing you can do is throw it out and that in itself fills up the landfills. Based on that alone, Mr. Coffee is better for the environment. I’ve had mine for about 10 yrs.

James asks…
I have had mine for about 9 months and couldnt imagine going back to my old machine. I love it.
I like to have an instant coffee without the cheap instant taste. My favorite flavor is Midnight Express.

This is a pdf file that will show the instructions first in french, then in english. Hope this helps

Both have some advantages and drawbacks. Tassimo is better if you want to make milk based drinks (like latte or cappuccino). With Keurig you get far more choice of coffee flavors and there is also an option to use your own coffee.
Personally, I would go with the Keurig coffee maker.

Thomas asks…
I’m thinking about buying one of the big ones with 5 different cup size options. My question, though, is if the same amount of coffee grinds are used for the 12 oz as the 6 oz, how will that effect how strong my coffee is? I typically like stronger coffee anyway, so is there a way to brew stronger coffee? I tried asking someone at Bed Bath and Beyond and he offered no help.
There are two ways to create STRONGER coffee. One is to increase the amount of grinds, the other is to decrease the amount of water. So the answer is YES, the amount of coffee is the same in a 12 oz cup as the larger with a Keurig brewer. If you cannot select a smaller cup size with your brewer, just remove the cup before it is finished brewing and catch the excess in another cup. Then you can get the desired strength…sounds like a hassel rather than a convenience. I prefer a press.

Donna asks…
recently i bought the hot chocolate pods for my keurig machine asking my friend she said it would be okay to put milk in it with the hot chocolate after i did that it starting smelling really burnt so i brewed a couple cups of water to clean the milk out of it I’ve brewed 5 cups and the milk is finally starting to thin out of it do you think i should just keep cleaning it out with water till theres no more milk or should i not use it at all please help me thanks!!
It will be very difficult to properly clean that machine. The milk residue will turn rancid and mold. Contact the manufacturer for cleaning recommendations but you may be stuck purchasing a new unit.

Maria asks…
I just bought some single coffee cups, not realizing that they weren’t K-Cups, and I was just wondering if there was any way i could make these Nescafe cups work in the Keurig machine.
You can always improvise and experiment to make things work. Or you can just buy the cups if in case you are looking for one you can check out http://nationwidecoffee.co.uk i recently bought a coffee machine from them and all i cant say is wow. The quality of machines they are selling is superb and the support is amazing as well. Next time if you are going to shop be careful and always double check.

Keurig is forever out of a coffee I order. Is anyone happy with where they order from? Why do you use that particular company? Thanks!
Amazon have 50 k cups for $27.75 and Costco have 80 cups for $39.95. You can get more information from http://buykcupscheap.com/

Does Dunkin Donuts and/or Starbucks make k cups for the keurig coffee machine??? im searching for them all over.. no sign of them!
Jeanine,
Unfortunately, you can’t get a Starbucks K cup. I like Gloria Jean’s, and Green Mountain. If you want, a K filter, reusable you should be able to find one in the $13-$17 range.

Donald asks…
How can a stonger large cup be brewed with this machine?
I use espresso coffee.

We have a Keurig coffee machine and it worked for quite a while but now some of the time it works but a lot of the time, it brews really slowly and when it is finished, you hardly get any coffee. We tried cleaning it out with a needle and running it through with just water a couple of times. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do? Thanks.
It probably has too much deposits in the pot (Tartre).. Have you tried asking an expert ?

I know a couple people with them, and they love it. Had one at a workplace and I loved it. While they aren’t cheap, and neither are the cups, if you are seriously a coffee drinker and like their product then go for it!

James asks…
I love coffee esp Starbucks cAfe mochas. How satisfied are you with your keurig machine? Does the coffee compare to a Starbucks espresso?
The convenience of the thing is the deal. I have never had, nor will I ever have a Starbuck’s anything. We have 4 Keurig machines, and are pleased with the variety of coffee and tea. Whatever you do, though, don’t let the machine freeze in a vacation home with no heat.

Someone passed on to me a Delonghi Otello coffee, espresso and cappuccino machine. I have the manual which has precise steps to create cappuccinos with unit measurements. These unit measurements are according to the espresso pot that comes with the machine. I however do not have the small pot to create coffee.
Does anyone know how much in milliliters (mL) is the two unit measurement of the small coffee pot? And the four unit measurement?
Thanks!
The maximum measurement for 4 shot is 250 mL
you may use less to your own taste, but more will over fill the boiler

I saw at a Friend’s house an espresso machine that uses ground coffee. The brand is called Delongui, which machine is it, does anyone knows?
De’Longhi makes inexpensive drip machines up through super-autos that can make espresso. Of course, the drip machines take ground coffee. Most super-autos, including the De’longhi Magnifica 3300 and Magnifica 3500, have “bypass dosers” which allow ground coffee to be used if that’s what’s available (or if someone requests decaf and you do not want to clear-out caffinated beans from the grinder hopper).

It’s just standard “vinegar” (as opposed to apple cider vinegar, which is red) which you haven’t diluted with water. Buy it at: Grocery stores, Dollar Stores, Walmart, CVS.

I am looking into buying a Keurig coffee maker. Does anyone know if you have to use pods in the coffee maker or can you just put your own coffee grounds into the coffee pot?
You can buy an adapter of sorts (mine was $17.95) that lets you use your own coffee. It comes out just as delicious as the k-cups. Http://www.keurig.com/accessories/my-k-cup

i own a keurig elite B40 coffee pot and it tweaked out and water went every where and then when we dried everthing off and plugged it back in all the lights were blinking and we cant remember how to fix it. or if there is a way. please reply back soon. thanks
Send it back to the company with the receipt. They will take care of it.

Donna asks…
So, I found out I’m getting the Keurig mini coffee pot for christmas from my husband. For the people who have this, do you enjoy this product and also, what is your favorite flavored coffee, and where are they the cheapest?
Timothy’s World has awesome flavors like german chocolate cake. The k-cups are usually cheapest at amazon or bed, bath and beyond if you have one of those 20 percent off coupons they send in the mail all the time.

I have been using my Keurig machine making coffee with the K cups for about 7 months. This afternoon, I was in the kitchen, no where near the coffee maker when all of a sudden it started pouring water out of the spout, steaming and making brewing noise. When I opened up the pod holder, the pod that was in there from this morning had burst and there were coffee grounds all over the inside of the pod holder. I unplugged it right away, cleaned it up and now when I plug it in it’s dead. No lights, nothing. Did anyone else ever have this happen to them? Any ideas or suggestions?
I’ve had my Keurig for about almost two years now and love it. Double check to see if your machine is plugged into a socket that has a GFI. It sounds like a power surge or something of that nature. If that’s the case you need to hit the little red button on the socket. I forget this from time to time!! I’ve been hoping mine would kick the bucket so I could get the model that brews 3 sizes instead of the one I have that only brews 2. You can also call 1-888-try-gmcr. They are super helpful…it’s where I get my coffee. Good luck and I hope it works by morning!!!!

Mary asks…
I am planning on buying a Keurig coffee maker but i heard I can brew regular ground coffee that you can get at a grocery store with that machine. Is that true, or can you only use the k-cups? Thanks!
Yeah! They make a thing called a “my k-cup”. You just put in your own coffee (or tea) and follow the instructions on how to use it.

Lizzie asks…
Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew if I could make my own reusable K-cup for my Keurig coffee machine B130. I know they make the reusable My K-Cups but it says they wont work with this machine.. ((go figure)).. Know of anyone who has had any success? Any help would be great!
Thank you!
I haven’t tried these, but there are these things floating around eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/K-Cups-Reuse-Your-Keurig-Coffee-K-Cup-Qty-5-clear_W0QQitemZ160418548487QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2559b0cb07
I think you reuse purchased K-cups by taking off the top, refilling them, and adding one of these toppers. I don’t see why this way wouldn’t work for every Keurig brewer.

Sharon asks…
Do you like it? Do you think is convenient? Im planning on buying one and I just want to know others opinion.
I don’t personally own one, but the coffee shop that I work at sells them. So far the B70 model has been the best seller over the B60. Guess people generally like newer models of anything. Anyway, people who I have sold them to come back to buy the K-Cup boxes and they all have very good reviews for their machines (Both models). They like the fact that clean up is a breeze and that it makes one cup at a time so it is very fresh. Having a lot of different choices of coffee and tea varieties doesn’t hurt either.
That all sounds great if that’s what the consumer is looking for. But in all honesty, if you do have a little time of the day to rinse a coffee pot and basket, it’s not really worth it.
